Sufficiency Summer School – Practical Guide
Welcome to the CARE Summer School!
This guide will help you navigate the city, settle into your accommodations at Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP), and find your way to workshops at Sciences Po (1 place Saint-Thomas d’Aquin, 75007).
GETTING AROUND THE PARIS TRANSPORT SYSTEM
🚇 How to get a transport pass in Paris
- Metro/RER/Bus: In order to commute, you will need to purchase a Navigo Easy subway pass. It is a €2 pass which you can get at the airport or at any subway station. You can then charge your pass with electronic tickets. Some subway stations also still sell paper tickets T+, but those are being rolled out.
- Downloadable app: Alternatively, you can also download the app and purchase your tickets with your phone.
- Downloadable maps for the Parisian metro and bus networks.
Check the Ile de France Mobilités website for more information.
🧳 Tip: always hold on to your train/subway ticket—it opens exit gates!
✈️ Getting from the Airport to Cité Universitaire Internationale de Paris (CUIP) from Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG):
- The RER B Train (blue line) is direct to Cité Universitaire station (~50 min, €13.00)
- Taxi: Flat rate ~€62 to Paris Left Bank
🧭 Getting from CUIP to Sciences Po Campus (1 Place Saint-Thomas d’Aquin, 75007 Paris)
- You can walk or take the tramway 3A to Porte D’Orléans station, then take Métro line 4 to Saint-Germain-des-Près station (this route will require 2 tickets on your Navigo Easy, unless you manage to purchase paper T+ tickets at the subway station)
- Alternatively, you can get on RER B from the Cité Universitaire station to Denfert-Rochereau, then take Métro line 4 to Saint-Germain-des-Près station (preferred option for most students)
🧭 Getting from CUIP to Gare du Nord (field trip on 4 June 2025)
- The RER B is direct to Gare du Nord station. When you reach the station, follow the sign to “Trains / Grandes Lignes” to join the train station (floor above). Make sure you allow enough time to navigate this large station! Plan to be there at 7:30AM at the latest!
YOUR ACCOMMODATION IN PARIS
You will be hosted at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP), 17 Bd Jourdan, 75014 Paris / Maison des Provinces de France.
- Check-in : Starts at 3:00 PM.
- Check-out : Rooms must be vacant at 09:00 AM at the latest
- Early check-in/Late check-out : additional fee will be charged (€ 36.96/room).
Upon arrival
- All students must go to la Maison des Provinces de France (MPF) to receive their room key. Note : the frontdesk of the MPF will be closed on Sunday 01/06/2025 but a security agent will be at the Maison des Provinces to hand keys over to guests (available 24/7).
- A Sufficiency team member will be present on site from 3:00 to 4:00 pm to assist students (reachable via the whatsapp group)
- Each student must activate their magnetic key when entering their residence by holding it in front of the black reader that opens the building’s door. This is an intuitive action, but it’s worth reminding, especially when students arrive in groups and only one person uses their badge to open the building’s entrance. Without this step, the key won’t open the room door.
This is a map of the CIUP. As you can see, your building is very close to the entrance located at 47, bd Jourdan!
