Co-organized by the CARE Program and the World Sufficiency Lab as part of the Sufficiency Summer School, the conference “Reimagining Paris: sufficiency in Practice” is hosted by the Académie du Climat on Friday 5 June 2026. This year’s edition of the sufficiency conference builds on the work initiated in 2025, deepening existing research themes while introducing new lines of inquiry within a broader context of global tensions.
What would Paris look like if sufficiency shaped its policies as a strategy to protect its citizens?
Join us as international student teams present bold, research-based proposals for rethinking energy poverty, elder care, health systems, water, and the impact of trade agreements such as MERCOSUR on local food provisioning, through the lens of sufficiency, resilience, and autonomy at the local level.
As geopolitical tensions, climate shocks, and resource dependencies expose the fragility of our cities, sufficiency is emerging as a strategic response. By reducing exposure to volatile supply chains, foreign dependencies, and ecological risks, sufficiency can help cities strengthen local capacities, democratic resilience, and the protection of their inhabitants.
After six months of collaborative research with the CARE Program, international student teams will share proposals for how the City of Paris could embed sufficiency principles into key policy areas to safeguard its long-term sovereignty and protect its residents.
Drawing on global case studies, field visits and comparative analysis, each group addresses a domain where avoiding resource dependency is both a necessity and an opportunity to reclaim agency.
Introduced by IPCC author Dr. Yamina Saheb, this event is an opportunity to explore fresh narratives and actionable ideas for building a more sovereign, resilient, and protective Paris.
