Students Take a Deep-Dive into Climate Data at the First EIB–Sciences Po Hackathon

Paris, 23 October 2025 — Twenty students from Sciences Po and CARE partner institutions  took part in the first EIB-Sciences Po Climate Hackathon, gaining exclusive access to the European Investment Bank’s Climate Survey data and developing original insights on how citizens perceive climate action across Europe and beyond.

Co-organized with Sciences Po’s Chair for Sustainable Development and Climate Transition and launched on 3 October, the Hackathon challenged students to analyze data from the EIB Climate Survey, which reflects responses from over 175,000 individuals across Europe and beyond.  Guided by academic tutors, experts from the EIB and market research firm Ipsos-BVA, students’ final mission was to collaboratively define their own research questions and to apply analytical tools to explore how attitudes toward climate change vary across regions, age groups and policy contexts.

Over 20 days of hands-on data analysis, students worked with both the EIB Climate Survey and publicly available sources. Divided into four research groups, they produced presentations and analytical reports, now published on the EIB’s, Sciences Po’s Chair and CARE’s websites (see below).

At the closing event, Nancy Saich, Chief Climate Change Expert at the EIB, emphasized the urgency for Europe and Canada to lead the green transition. She praised students’ efforts and expressed hope that their findings would contribute to shaping policies that demonstrate the tangible benefits of investing in climate adaptation and renewable energy.

The event concluded with a celebratory cocktail for students on campus and the awarding of a financial prize to all participants .The Climate Hackathon marked a new step in the collaboration between CARE, Sciences Po’s Chair for Sustainable Development and Climate Transition and the EIB, bridging education, research and practice to equip students with data-driven insights for climate action.
