CARE: Pioneering Climate Leadership

The Climate Adaptation, Resilience, and Empowerment (CARE) Program is a transformative initiative aimed at equipping Master’s students with the tools to become global climate leaders. Its overarching objective is to nurture environmentally conscious leaders and citizens to drive sustainable development through evidence-based policies and community engagement. CARE fosters knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary research, and innovation to address the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

The program builds on partnerships among leading universities: Sciences Po (France), University of Toronto, University of Guelph, and University of British Columbia (Canada). Supported by the DRG Foundation, CARE creates unique opportunities for students to engage in cross-cultural exchanges, develop leadership skills, and participate in impactful advocacy initiatives.

Through scholarships, fellowships, and collaborative projects, CARE empowers students to connect academic learning with real-world challenges. The program emphasizes community-based solutions, draws from local knowledge systems, and prioritizes the needs of vulnerable populations. By fostering a global network of student leaders, CARE ensures a lasting legacy of informed, action-driven leadership to confront pressing environmental challenges.

ISHA AGARWAL

Student in PSIA’s Master in Environmental Policy

« I absolutely believe that avoiding the worst potential cases of climate change is possible, but only if people are motivated to work towards this future. I think the most important work to be done to combat climate change is in the political arena. One of the biggest barriers to tackling the climate crisis is resisting division and issues relating to the tragedy of the commons. Climate change will impact everyone across the globe in some way and the grave threat it poses requires international cooperation and unity. As young people are those who will be inheriting our planet, the world needs ambitious and passionate young people to lead the international conversation on climate action. »
