Kick-off of the 2nd Edition of the CARE-WSL Sufficiency Policies & Practices Project

The 2026 edition of the CARE-WSL Sufficiency project kicked off on 16 November, bringing together 25 students from universities across the CARE consortium. Under the scientific supervision of  Dr. Yamina Saheb, founder of the World Sufficiency Lab and professor at PSIA, the project builds on the strong foundation established during its first edition.

This year’s edition offers students two pathways:

  • to build on last year’s research through applied, practice-oriented projects, or
  • to explore new and emerging sufficiency themes through in-depth research.

Among the participating students, 15 have opted to engage in practical projects focused on three key sufficiency themes: Urban Policy, Food Systems and Digitalization.  These teams will deepen and expand previous research by identifying and assessing sufficiency gaps between Paris and other cities (such as Toronto and Vancouver), or by developing concrete, practice-based solutions inspired by these themes.

The remaining 10 students have opted to conduct in-depth literature analysis to inform understanding of sufficiency practices in two new sufficiency research emerging themes : Water and Health.

This hybrid project combines five months of remote collaborative research work with the Sufficiency Summer School held in Paris (1-6 June 2026). During this intensive week, students from all partner universities will gather to finalize their projects, take part in field visits and present their findings at a public event at the Académie du Climat.

Throughout this initiative, participating students will develop critical insights into sufficiency policies and practices, present findings at a high-level event, and gain valuable interdisciplinary research and applied skills. The project also offers the opportunity to network with peers from across France and Canada and with leading experts, as well as to contribute to impactful sustainability work.
